Qubool Hai – Reality – Escapism – Memory – R. E. M. – Losing My Religion!

When we watch a show, we usually like the aspects of it that are fun filled, romantic. We rarely want to see what is unpalatable for e.g. revenge, hatred, duplicity or even jealousy. While we face these in our life (though we wish that we all have a picture perfect life, it is still not a movie). While we try to find some sort of escapism in Television shows or movies, we do see some parallels in our life with what we see on TV.
Here are some parallels, we see in Qubool Hai. Tell us if you find any relation in your life.
Wanting to forget
Zoya Farooqui (Surbhi Jyoti) has run away from the reality that she saw. Tanveer (Amrapali Gupta) and Asad Ahmed Khan (Karan Singh Grover) have supposedly betrayed Zoya with their act. She wants to forget, however, memory is a thorn (we actually wanted to use a more harsh word, but we are trying to mind our language) that keeps pricking at the wrongest moment. She has found refuge in an orphanage and is trying to sweep the memories clean.

On the other hand we have Humeira Siddiqui (Ketki Kadam), who also has shunned her reality. Reality of her fiancé not being in love with her. She was going away and met with an accident. And now she is someone else. Is this a memory loss or willful attempt at wanting to forget her reality of a love-less marriage. Is that the reason she has become a woman who is perhaps loved by her husband as that is her eternal wish?

Asad Ahmed Khan (Karan Singh Grover) had faced his reality  which he has been trying to run away from for last 17 years. He wants to forget that he has a father and fears relationships just because he believes he is chip off the old block. And, lord behold, he “proved” that he is. Betrayal seems to be part of his DNA. And Dilshaad Ahmed Khan (Shalini Kapoor) showed him the mirror.
We want to know, if there was something that you would want to forget, the one memory that you would want flush out of your brain, what would it be? And will it bring peace to you? One can run away from things, people, places, can one run away from oneself?

In Qubool Hai, each character wants to not face their reality. There is Gaffur Ahmed Siddiqui (Tej Sapru) who wants to forget his reality of having had an illicit affair and fathered a child out of wedlock (at least that what we see in the story so far). His way of escaping that reality is find solace in religious books, rituals and charity.

Razia Siddiqui (Alka Kaushal) has her reality of being a criminal which she hides behind a garb of a caring mother, however, the evil streak surfaces ever so often. She has killed a woman in her need to secure her marriage and keep her man. She went a step further  in her efforts to secure a future for her daughter by blackmailing Ayaan Ahmed Khan (Vikrant Massey) in a marriage of convenience.

Tanveer (Amrapali Gupta) has her reality of being a woman who wants to achieve a status while shunning her love and even passing off someone else’s child to a man she believes will bring her status and dignity in society.
Warped thinking is what one would say. But if we were to look at it from their perspective, they are all desperate people, taking desperate measures. Are the means justifying the end? Each one wants to find their share of happiness, however, is it fine to trample over others to create your world.

Tell us what you see in the show? Qubool Hai airs Monday to Friday at 9:30pm on Zee TV and brings you story of two families mired in doubts, dubious affairs and dilemma that can be frustrating and intriguing in equal measure. Love it or hate it but can you really ignore it? Keep watching for there is more than what meets the eyes. Draw parallels in angles that you as a viewers have yet not explored.
Lets Talk.
Note – We have used  R. E. M’s Losing my religion song as a title to draw parallels. Nothing about religion per se, unless you think living in reality is a religion in itself.
